Thief sought refuge within local church in Hohoe in the Volta Region after failed robbery attempt
A suspected thief sought refuge within a local church in Hohoe in the Volta Region after a failed robbery attempt.
In an attempt to escape the fury of irate community youth who pursued him, he ran into a church for cover.
According to a post on X by Sikaofficial, dated July 21, 2025, the suspect attempted to escape the fury of the youth by running to a church, but the experience was short-lived, as he was picked up by the police to face the full rigours of the law.
The caption that accompanied the X post read, ” The suspect, a middle-aged man, is accused of targeting the homes of individuals when they are away at Sunday morning service. Fortunately, he was allowed to rest peacefully in the church with angry youth agitating outside until police officers arrived to apprehend him.”
One of the victims expressed his frustration, saying, “I don’t want him to be beaten by the angry mob, so I am closing the door. But your face is captured if you like; come again,” he said to the thief.
“He should have been baptized before being taken away—that’s the work he does. Every Sunday, he comes to operate in people’s homes while we are at church. Fortunately, he was caught today. When the angry youth intended to beat him, he ran to hide in the church. He should thank the pastor; otherwise, the youth would have dealt with him quite harshly,” the man added.
What appeared to hurt the youth the most was the fact that the suspected thief had been making away with food prepared in anticipation for the lunch after church services on Sundays.
“He stole all our balls of banku that we had prepared and kept in the kitchen. Why didn’t he run to hide in a mosque? He’s a Muslim. We’re very disappointed and angry about his actions,” he lamented.
