Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, wearing his ‘nsebe kye’ (hat), dancing to the rhythms from the ‘aprede’ drums
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Monday, June 10, 2025, graced the last day of the three-day funeral rites, ‘Dote Yie,’ of the late Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
A viral video from the event showed the Asantehene performing the final funeral rites of the late Osei Bonsu II, who was his second-in-command, in accordance with the traditions of Asanteman.
In a sombre ceremony rich with Asante heritage and culture, the Asantehene arrived at the Asante Mampong Palace, where the mortal remains of the Mamponghene was laid in state.
Draped in his ‘Atinka Ntoma’, symbolising his pain at losing a royal and close confidant, and wearing his ‘nsebe kye’ (hat), Otumfuo performed his final ritual beside the mortal remains of the late Osei Bonsu II.
The Asantehene was seen mouthing his parting words, while dancing to rhythms from the ‘aprede’ drums.
With the “kum abrempong” around his neck, the Asantehene danced to the vibrant rhythm of ‘aprede’, flanked by his kinsmen who were cheering him on.
