Ghana’s Black Stars forward Kamaldeen Sulemana says the team is determined to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The four-time African Cup of nations champions has experienced a challenging period, marked by group-stage eliminations in the last two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, as well as a failure to qualify for this year’s competition.
Reflecting on the Black Stars setbacks over recent times via Showmax, the Southampton attacker said the players take full responsibility of their actions and they are ready to redeem themselves.
“We also didn’t perform well in the last two AFCON tournaments, so we were hoping to make this year a great one. We as players take the blame and take full responsibility for not qualifying, and we have apologised to the country and our fans.”
He emphasized that despite these challenges, the Black Stars are focused on moving forward and achieving success.
“We want to do well in the World Cup qualifiers and in the World Cup.”
Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualification hopes soared after a commanding 5-0 triumph over Chad and a convincing 3-0 win against Madagascar during the March international break, corresponding to Matchday 5 and 6.
These victories propelled the Black Stars to the top of Group I with an impressive 15 points and three points advantage over second place Comoros.
The Black Stars are preparing for crucial Matchday 7 and 8 clashes against Chad and Mali in the September internationals.
They will then conclude their qualification campaign with matches against Comoros and the Central African Republic, aiming to solidify their spot in the prestigious tournament in their quest to secure back-to-back qualifications.
With their sights firmly set on qualification, the team will need to maintain their current form and avoid any slip-ups to achieve their goal.
