We inherited a very weak energy sector; power supply to be stable in two weeks — Energy Minister

John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy, has assured Ghanaians that the current erratic power supply will be stabilized within two weeks as the government works to address fundamental energy sector crisis.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Thursday, February 20, the Minister disclosed that the administration inherited a shaky energy sector, which has contributed to the country’s recent power outages.

“We inherited a very weak energy sector. Ghanaians should bear with us as we work to fix the problems permanently,” Mr. Jinapor stated.

He also advised the public to be patient, reassuring them that steps are being taken to restore reliable power supply in the short term.

“The current erratic supply situation should be stable in two weeks’ time,” he added.

The latest wave of power outages has raised fears among Ghanaians, with many wondering if the country is returning to an era of dumsor—a phrase used to describe frequent power outages in Ghana.

Meanwhile, the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) says 70% of its ongoing maintenance works have been completed, bringing the company closer to resuming gas supply to Tema–a move that will in turn enhance the power supply.
