A former Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer and one-time New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary aspirant, Musah Superior, has shared his thoughts on how to rebuild the opposition party.
The NPP stalwart emphasized the need for strong, independent leadership that cannot be easily manipulated if the party is to regain its former appeal.
In a statement, Musah Superior warned that leaders who easily yield to the influence of godfathers and power brokers may not help the NPP become electable in the 2028 general elections.
“We don’t only need strong, brave, and firm leadership to lead, manage, and oversee the affairs of the NPP from now till December 2028. We also need assertive, sincere, truthful, and trustworthy individuals who will not be swayed by personal feelings, yield to godfathers or influence peddlers, or be manipulated by backstage power brokers.
“As we rebuild and re-energize our ‘fallen’ party to make it electable in 2028, we must solemnly declare our unflinching determination to make our party attractive again—first to our grassroots and then to the larger voting population,” he stated.
The conversation about rebuilding the NPP has intensified following its historic defeat in the 2024 general elections, where its total votes dropped by two million compared to the 2020 elections.
The party has since established an election review committee, led by former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, which is yet to release its findings.
