We respect religious leaders; Abronye’s attack on Duncan-Williams doesn’t reflect our values — NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from comments made against the General Overseer of the Action Chapel International (ACI) Ministry, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, by its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe Abronye.

The remarks, which the party says do not reflect its values, beliefs, or official position, were made by the controversial politician on his Ohia TV platform.

In a statement dated June 30 and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP reaffirmed its respect for religious leadership and acknowledged the immense contributions of Archbishop Duncan-Williams and the wider religious community to national development, peace, and moral guidance.

“The attention of the National Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been drawn to public commentary made by the Bono Regional Chairman of the Party, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, alias Abronye DC, in which he made some unfortunate and unprovoked remarks about the internationally revered Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams during a recent media engagement.

“The party unequivocally distances itself from those comments and emphasises that they do not reflect the party’s values, beliefs, or official position. The New Patriotic Party holds religious leadership in high regard and recognises the immense contributions of Archbishop Duncan-Williams and the broader religious community to national development, peace, and moral guidance,” the statement read in part.

While affirming its commitment to the principle of free expression, the party stressed that members must exercise it with the utmost responsibility, respect, and decorum—especially when addressing revered faith leaders whose influence transcends partisan lines.

“We urge the general public, especially the Christian community, to treat Mr Baffoe’s personal views as entirely his own and not attributable to the New Patriotic Party,” it added.

Meanwhile, this comes after the party had earlier summoned Abronye for flouting directives from the National Executive Council to refrain from making unguarded public comments.
