President John Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Ghana, announcing plans to construct a modern hospital in Yendi.

During his ‘thank you’ tour of the Northern Region on Saturday, March 22, 2025, President Mahama addressed the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, and the community at the Gbewaa Palace, emphasizing the importance of accessible and quality healthcare.

The President acknowledged the longstanding need for improved medical facilities in Yendi and assured the community of his administration’s dedication to addressing this issue.

“Ndan Yaa Naa, the healthcare, one of the projects that has been dear to your heart that has been abandoned for so many years is the Yendi Hospital. I can assure you that we are going to achieve that project and build a modern health facility here in Yendi.”

In addition to the Yendi project, President Mahama outlined plans to upgrade existing healthcare institutions in the region. He mentioned initiatives to enhance both the Tamale Municipal Hospital and the Tamale Central Hospital, aiming to alleviate the burden on the Tamale Teaching Hospital and improve healthcare services across the Northern Region.

These developments align with President Mahama’s broader agenda to enhance healthcare infrastructure nationwide.

“In addition, we intend to upgrade the old Tamale Central Hospital in order to ease the pressure on the Tamale Teaching Hospital. We’re going to upgrade both the Tamale Municipal Hospital and the Tamale Central Hospital. This will improve healthcare for the people of the Northern Region,” he promised.

Accompanying the President on this tour were key government officials, including the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama; Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu; Transport Minister, Joseph Nikpe; Deputy Roads and Highways Minister, Alhassan Suhuyini; Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf; among other party supporters.
