The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed plans by the government to engage the private sector in a strategic partnership aimed at revamping the country’s ailing health facilities.
He said the move has become necessary as many public health facilities across the country are fast deteriorating due to the lack of modern diagnostic and treatment equipment.
Mr Akandoh stressed that improving infrastructure alone would not guarantee quality healthcare without complementing it with state-of-the-art medical technologies.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, July 9, the Health Minister lamented the country’s failure to upgrade health facilities since a major nationwide intervention in 2014.
He noted that the current situation has left most hospitals struggling to provide efficient services.
“The other area that is also of importance is the diagnosis, the imaging, the labs and the various already existing facilities. Almost all our facilities are deteriorating at a very fast rate,” Mr Akandoh stated.
“We are also looking at partnering the private sector to see how we can get more equipment to make our already existing health facilities run and run well,” he added.
