Professor Emmanuel K. Derbile, the Vice Chancellor of the Simon-Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), has assured students that  the university is training them to be successful and competitive on the international stage.

“With this in mind, the university is determined and working diligently towards establishing students as a global icon and a significant force in the landscape of tertiary education.

“The university will continue to work tirelessly to introduce new market driven and innovative programmes that will address the human resource needs for national development and global citizenship”, he said.

Professor Derbile gave the assurance at the 5th matriculation ceremony for students who gained admission to pursue various undergraduates and postgraduate programmes for the 2024-2025 academic year.

He urged the students to uphold the integrity and reputation of the university and be  committed to discipline, adhere to the rules and regulations for junior members throughout their period on campus.

The Vice Chancellor announced that 4,332 students were inducted into the various programmes of the university, representing a one per cent increase in admission over the 2023-2024 academic year with 62 per cent of them being males and 38 per cent females for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, signifying 88 per cent of the total number of 4,897 applicants it received for this academic year.

Professor Derbile said the university would from this year launch the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship for brilliant but needy students, a scheme that would primarily benefit brilliant but needy undergraduate students, aimed to promote diversity and gender inclusivity in access to tertiary education.

He said Stanbic Bank Limited had already provided GH¢40,000.00 towards the operationalisation of the scheme and appealed to benevolent organisations and public spirited individuals to support the scheme to help enhance female access to tertiary education.

On infrastructure, Professor Derbile said the university was faced with infrastructure challenges and expressed the hope that with the implementation of the GETFund and Infrastructure Completion Initiative, some infrastructure needs of the university would be provided to enhance teaching and learning.

He encouraged the students to continue to bear with the university authorities and to join them adopt a problem solving approach to addressing infrastructure challenges.
