Why NPP Electoral Loss Is Possible

Why NPPElectoral Loss Is Possible

To secure reelection in 2028, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must acknowledge its failures and work towards restoring public trust. Unless significant reforms are made the party may face miserable electoral defeat in future. Ghanaians voted massively and confidently in support of President Mahama and NDC. Was that massive win a magic? It was real and it tells you that the citizens are now serious with serious leadership. It is now action not words alone. To secure reelection in 2028, the NPP must address critical weaknesses that have led to voter frustration and discontent. No one feels comfortable when the whole body is full of excruciating and agonizing wounds. Are Ghanaian okay to give Ghana to NPP to keep borrowing excessively, live by arrogance of power and increase the cost of fuel? The healing balm must come from someone who was not of the wounds creators and Ken is among the right people. The reason is simple, he has the style and courage to face realities. Let us look at the wounds that need to be healed.

Economic Hardships. Rising inflation, high unemployment and a weakening currency have led to higher costs of living for citizens. For Mr. Mahama’s six months’ effort to restore hope in cedis be ignored and get NPP back to destroy what has been accomplished? Ghanaians still have the wound unhealed. For example, the Ghanaian cedi has depreciated significantly, making imports expensive and increasing the cost of goods. Poor economic management, excessive borrowing and weak fiscal policies have worsened financial conditions. And these scars cannot be corrected with mouth washed water.

Public Discontent Over Corruption. Scandals and allegations of financial mismanagement have eroded trust in leadership. There are concerns over questionable government contracts and misuse of public funds have angered citizens. Lack of strict anti-corruption policies, transparency and accountability has fueled public distrust.

Failure to Address Cost of Living. High taxes, expensive utilities, and stagnant wages have made life difficult for many citizens. Electricity and fuel prices continued to rise, making basic necessities unaffordable. NPP did not implement sufficient measures to control inflation and relieve economic pressure.

Broken Campaign Promises. One district, one factory promise. Voters feel betrayed due to unfulfilled pledges, especially in economic recovery and infrastructure development. NPP promises to create massive employment opportunities, was never materialized. Leadership has prioritized short-term political gains over long-term development goals.

Internal Party Divisions. Leadership conflicts and disagreements over parliamentary candidates have weakened party unity. Internal tensions between key political figures have led to internal instability, making the party less appealing to voters. Lack of clear leadership succession and unity has discouraged supporters.

Poor Crisis Management. The government’s response to economic downturns, global challenges, and domestic issues has been criticized. Had NPP been in power now, they could have mismanaged the economy due to excessive borrowing to raise the dollar rate to one cedi to 30 dollars and defend that because of Trump’s tariff war the country is suffering. All their incompetencies are turned out to blame someone or shift to some situations. Poor handling of Ghana’s debt crisis and inflation spikes has worsened economic instability. Leadership failed to anticipate long-term economic risks and provide effective solutions.

Loss of Youth Support. Failure to prioritize student loans, youth employment and entrepreneurship have alienated young voters. Many graduates remain unemployed, despite promises of job creation and economic reform. Youth feel neglected, and government policies have not sufficiently addressed job shortages and business funding.

Path to Rebuilding Public Trust
To reverse these failures and secure reelection, the NPP must prioritize:

Economic stability – Implementing policies that control inflation and stabilize the cedi. Transparency & accountability – Strengthening anti-corruption measures and ensuring fair resource allocation. Citizen-focused policies – Prioritizing affordable living standards and sustainable employment strategies. Party unity – Resolving internal conflicts to regain voter confidence. Youth empowerment – Investing in education, entrepreneurship, and employment initiatives.

Political success depends on earning public trust and addressing national concerns effectively. Without credible leadership, proactive governance, and sustainable policies, the NPP risks facing electoral failure in 2028. The party must act decisively and restore confidence to secure a stronger political future.
