Ahead of Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Chad and Madagascar, manager of Black Stars Otto Addo has spoken on the progressive relationship among the technical team members exclusively to 3Sports.
After Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the technical team was altered as Black Satellite coach Desmond Offei and Winfried Schafer were added as assistant coach and technical director respectively.
Winfried Schafer comes into the role with vast experience on the continent. The German won the 2002 Africa cup of Nations with Cameroon. Desmond Offei on the other hand is a budding trainer who led the U-20 male team to a gold medal in the 2023 Africa Games as well as grabbing a spot to the U-20 AFCON.
Coach Otto Addo believes their addition to the team is a big boast for Ghana’s quest to return to the mundial which will be hosted in United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
According to him, “I think everybody has different qualities. Surely, I think Desmond has done a very good job with the under-20s. He’s bringing in his experience and working with national teams. But I think it’s also a good quality, tactical and technical-wise, what he’s bringing in. He’s very, very supportive. And surely, Winfried Schafer has big, big experience. He has won the African Cup with Cameroon. He knows how to deal with difficult situations. We’ve been talking a lot. He’s been engaging from the first day with the players and I’m very, very happy that he’s on board.”
Ghana are without a win in their last 6 matches but are second in Group I.
