A shocking incident has unfolded after a woman gave birth to a baby boy in a private toilet when she attempted to use the facility.

The 21-year-old woman, Madam Paulina Linaju, head-dresser apprentice at Dambai in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, has been hospitalised and her condition is currently being monitored by both police personnel and medical staff.

Mr. Oboaba Yakubu, Assembly Member for Dambai Old Town, recounted the sorrowful incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

The Assemblyman said he received a distress call from the landlord of the toilet facility during a live radio programme on Oti fm.

He said the landlord informed him that, one of his sons discovered a crying baby in the latrine after a young woman had used the facility and left.

“Upon rushing to the scene, I call one police officer and later found out the baby was dead in the pit,” Mr. Yakubu added.

The Assembly Member said the police officer retrieved the remains from the pit and family members of the suspect arranged for a proper burial.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Al-hassan Abdul-Razak, the Divisional Crime Officer at Dambai Police Command, has clarified that he has not received any official report regarding the incident where a woman allegedly gave birth in a toilet.

However, he confirmed having heard about the incident, which reportedly involved a police officer, who was passing by and was alerted by the local Assemblyman.

Attempts to speak to the victim have been futile.
